Failure to Launch
Next Session Begins:
Tues, September 26
4:00 - 5:30 PT / 7:00 - 8:30 ET
About the bookHave an adult child that can’t get or keep a job? Do you bend over backwards to keep your young adult free from anxiety? Make their dr’s appts, clean their room and do their laundry? Does your adult child have a mental illness and you’re not sure that they’re capable of managing their own life? If the answer is yes, then [Mark McConville’s] book was written for you…It’s time to stop removing the hurdles your adult child faces. It’s time to stop telling them what to do…This is not the old “tough love” strategy where you make the rules and threaten to kick them out. Instead, [Failure to Launch] is a guide to a slow but steady program of growth thru added responsibilities. It works best with collaboration between parent(s) and young adult children, but collaboration is not required. Designed to show parents how to become more hands off.

H.O.M.E.
October
About the bookH.O.M.E is a practical guide for parents whose complicated teen has required out-of-home treatment (hospitalization, wilderness, or residential treatment). Authors Jen Murphy and Hilary Moses, both therapists, have worked extensively with families for over two decades. They offer specific suggestions that place parents back in the role of “captain of the ship”. Understanding that tools and strategies alone are not enough, Murphy and Moses have also packed their book with probing questions and parent work. Whether you are just getting started in seeking out-of-home placement or you’re preparing for your child’s return home, this book should be at the top of your reading list.

“We’re still a work in progress, but I’m feeling so much more hopeful…”
“I loved being able to discuss a book with other parents whose kids have similar issues. I always have the best intentions when I start reading a new parenting book, and I take tons of notes and highlight things that apply to me. But I find it so hard to actually USE any of the strategies the author suggests. The book club discussions with other parents and the homework challenges kind of kicked me off my butt. Plus Sarah’s insights probably saved me from a blunder or two. I ended up introducing some changes at home with my son that were long overdue. We’re still a work in progress, but I’m feeling so much more hopeful…”
